In the year of 2010-2011 I learned many things. Two things I am good at are completing my homework on time and using my class time wisely. Two things I could improve on are making my work the best it can be and trying to participate more in class discussions. My goals for the next 6 weeks are to study a lot for my exams and not procrastinate. I plan to re-write all of my notes so it is easy for my to read them and I'll be studying since I am writing them over again.
Adult Response
In looking at your work, I would like to compliment you on the following 2 things:
I would like to compliment my child with what she did on her Early Peoples definition card and her simile definition card. She was very artistic that she was able draw an image based on her definition.
In the last 6 weeks of school I will help you reach your goals by:
I will help her reach her goal by always reminding her to study on her free time. I will remind her to put away her cellphone when she is studying so no one could bother her with a text.

Term 1 Reflection
During Term 1, we learned about rate, ratio, proportional reasoning, Pythagoras, square roots and perfect squares. I finished all my assignments and completed my blog posts/comments. Making scribe posts and using Pythagoras has been the easiest part in math. Square roots and perfect squares was the most difficult for me because I was too scared to ask for help. But I have found my confidence so now I am able to share my answers and ask questions if I don’t understand something. I did fairly well overall because my math average was 83. Although I think I could have done better on my square roots and perfect squares test. For term 2, one thing I would like to get used to is commenting on all the blogs leaving specific feedback. My goal is to get my math average in the 90’s this term. To do that, I’m going to have to work harder to get perfect on all my quizzes so I will do great on my tests.

For term 2, I think did well on finding volume because i knew how to find the answer. The thing I struggled on was finding the surface area of a cylinder because I couldn’t remember the formulas and i kept leaving steps out. To do better next term I will try to finish all of my textbook homework on time. When it comes it percents, surface area and volume, I forgot how to do percents because I was doing textbook work about it in the Philippines and I wasn’t so sure if i was doing it right. I’ll need to revisit that again. But for surface area and volume, I learned the formulas on how to get the correct answer.
The difference between surface area and volume is that surface area is the area of a flat surface or the outside layer of an object and Surface area is two dimensional. While volume is the amount of space it occupies in an object and it is three dimensional.

On the integer test I got a lot of mistakes. The reason I got so many things wrong is because I was rushing and just assumed my answers without going through it fully. Another reason why I got wrong answers was because I got distracted by the baby brackets and I would read the equation wrong which lead me to get the wrong answer.
GRADE EIGHT STUDENT ASSIGNMENT- PORTFOLIO REFLECTION TASK/INTENT/CRITERIA Throughout the year I have completed assignments based on Assessment for Learning practices. The learning process has followed the three key components:
Subject: Language Arts Chapter 1 Iqbal Explore Response TASK: What was I asked to do for this assignment?
I was required to make an EXPLORE response on chapter 1 Iqbal and support our statements with examples from the text
INTENT: Why am I completing this assignment?
The are several reasons why I completed this assignment. First, we had to learn how to organize our thoughts in the EXPLORE organizer before putting it into paragraph form. Also, this assignment taught me how to find examples from the text to support our statements. Lastly, this assignment taught me how to fully look through what i read and think about what was in the text.
CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment?
Fill in the EXPLORE organizer with our thoughts and examples
Back up all statements with examples and opinions
Underline statements and highlight the support
Include the necessary parts in each section (Lines: names, places, lines and words)
Underline title of the book
Include page number if there's a quote you used for support
NEXT STEPS:
I can now organize my thoughts in an organizer so it is easier for me to put it in paragraph form (pre write).
I can now make statements and find support (examples) to back them up.
I can now fully understand what i read because the EXPLORE response made me think about what I was reading.
I now know how to pre-write/brainstorm before doing any writing piece
I now know how to go through the whole writing process for a successful writing piece.
Throughout the year I have completed assignments based on Assessment for Learning practices. The learning process has followed the three key components: Subject: Social Studies Mesopotamia Definition Card TASK: What was I asked to do for this assignment?
I was required to take a certain definition from my Mesopotamian booklet and create a visual on a card and include the definition
INTENT: Why am I completing this assignment?
There are several reasons why I completed this assignment. First, I got to express the word using a visual and I got to be creative when I made my border. Also, for me to have another study tool since i had to write the definition and make an image. It helps me remember more about the word. Lastly, I can show what i learned about this word and show I understand what it means.
CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment?
Write definition of word
Create illustration that matches the word
Use the amount of space you have in the square to draw your picture
Draw the border creatively; don't just colour it in and make it pretty. Make it have a connection to the word
Colour picture
Make picture and words neat and clear to see
NEXT STEPS:
I can now create visuals for new words I learn.
I can be creative when makeing a border for my definition card
Early Peoples Definition Card

GRADE EIGHT STUDENT ASSIGNMENT- PORTFOLIO REFLECTION TASK/INTENT/CRITERIA Throughout the year I have completed assignments based on Assessment for Learning practices. The learning process has followed the three key components: Subject: Social Studies Cro-Magnon Poster TASK: What was I asked to do for this assignment?
I was required to create a poster outlinging the social organization, home, food and tools use by the Cro-Magnon people
INTENT: Why am I completing this assignment?
There are several reasons why I completed this assignment. First, this assignment helped me comprehend visually how the Cro-Magnons lived. Also, this assignment helped me to creat a visual organizer which is one way of representing your idea. Finally this assignment helped me prepare me for the unit test by serving as a study guide of Cro-Magnon daily life.
CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment?
Create a visual organizer to show specific details/aspects of Cro-Magnon daily life (home, social organization, food and tools)
Each section of poster needed heading
Followed rubric given to complete task (title, neatly done images, colouring)
NEXT STEPS:
I can now create a visual organizer showing important details for specific topics
I now have another study tool I can use to help prepare for a test
I can help create rubrics/criteria for how to complete an assignment and I can follow them to complete an assignment successfully
My 2 minutes to make a difference project is about poverty in Africa. One big question is determine the effect poverty has made on the lives of people in Africa. The second big question is investigate the consequences the government's poor choices has made on those in Africa. My last big question is analyze how the people in Africa deal with the conditions they are living in. One key point that I learned during my research is that HIV/AIDS, malaria, malnutrition, and lack of health care are some of the big contributors to poverty in Africa. In this project, my group and I are at the point where we are making our difference into action. This project is due around the end of May.
